Founded in year 2003 by co-founders namely Yoav Shaham, Assaf Henkin, and Henit Vitos, Kontera has established itself as an innovative company in advertising market over the years. The company provides a unique range of products, all of which are built on the basis of Kontera’s Synapse Engine. This Synapse Engine carefully analyses web trends and predicts user’s interests in relevant information and ads. Kontera serves ads in Editorial, Display, Mobile and Social platforms. Kontera allows advertisers to get accurate targeting across the web and allowing users to find information that is relevant to their interests. There are certainly, some positive and negative points of Kontera. Let’s discuss those:
Advantages of Kontera
Kontera uses one of the traditional in-text or text link advertising methods, in which keywords are linked with relevant ads and are usually marked with a double underline. When a user hovers cursor over it, a small preview image of the ad appears. Kontera Synapse engine tries to make it contextually as relevant as possible, hence there is always increased possibility of a high Clickthrough ratio.
Since the ads are linked to the keywords within the text of website content and they appear over the text, it does not require any additional space on your site; hence you can use your sellable advertising space with more advertising methods.
Kontera uses rich media like images and videos in its contextually relevant ads, which makes it more appealing for users to click on them. The payment model, Kontera has adopted is PPC, (Pay per Click), therefore, every time a visitor clicks on an ad, you get a little amount.
Disadvantages of Kontera
The most visible argument against Kontera is Google’s stance towards text link ads, because Google usually discourages website using text link ads, for the reason that part of Google’s ranking procedure is depending on the number of incoming links to a page. A common perception is that websites having good number of incoming links should possess equally useful information, failing in which no one is going to link to those websites. Now, text links increase popularity of web pages in an artificial manner. Hence, both the publishers of paid text links and advertisers, whose sites are landed on after clicking the links, can be banned by Google if they are caught. They can lower your ranking or can even remove your website from search results.
Secondly, people often find it a bit intrusive when they are focused on content of the page and while moving their cursor, they suddenly stumble upon an annoying window that appears by itself. It usually gets worse, if its rich media advert.
Payments
Kontera like other advertising companies offers payment through a Cheque, Wire transfer or PayPal. Kontera excels from Google Adsense at this point because AdSense so far does not allow PayPal payments. Minimum payout that Kontera allows is $50, which is 100% lower than AdSense, however certain other companies are allowing as low as 10 -20 $. In addition, Kontera reserves a good 30% chunk from earning of Publisher.
Conclusion
It very much depends on your site goals or at least the site page, where you want to put the text link ads. Kontera can be a great assistance for bringing you easy money. Besides, you also would not be sacrificing your precious ads space for it. However, text link ads generally carry a negative reputation because of their intrusiveness. Besides, for Publishers, 30% of your earning will be property of Kontera, for that reason you have to weigh your income vis-à-vis the benefits you are likely to get from connecting with Kontera.
Edit: They have shown very strange policy about affiliate acceptance, which in my opinion is not fair. They have rejected me as an affiliate, because i am using Infolinks as main advertise company. Think about that.
